Cheating

I'll admit, this blog was created to test the waters with tabu topics that plague my mind. This topic is a sensitive one for me. We all have moral compasses, it's just that some of us get a little confused between North and South.

Why do people cheat?
  • They're lonely
  • They want a challenge
  • They love their spouse/significant other, but are bored
  • Their emotions take over
  • They think it will only happen once
  • Their life becomes stressful
  • Their spouse/significant other doesn't give them enough attention
  • They feel like they missed out on life
  • They crave excitement
  • Extenuating circumstances
  • They need to feel loved
  • They can't get out of their marriage
  • They have an open marriage
  • Their spouse has cheated
  • They think they are in love

I've grown up around cheaters. My dad cheated twice (he's on this 3rd marriage). I've watched my mom flirt with cheating (albeit in an intoxicated state). My husband has cheated on me. And when I was little my stepmother made out with her male "friend" while I was in the other room (adults don't give kids enough credit). I've also known about 5-6 close friends who have cheated and shared their stories with me (people like to tell me things).

When is it okay to cheat?

  • When it will only be one time, really
  • When you have the opportunity to hook up with a celebrity crush (anyone see Entourage)
  • When you have already filed for divorce
  • When you have an open marriage
  • When you have one last chance with the "one who got away"
  • When you are so lonely that your heart actually hurts and you don't know what else to do

I must admit, I cheat for reasons that are NOT okay (as per the above list). The cheating addiction began when I was in my early twenties with a martial arts instructor, a very very hot martial arts instructor. If I could post a pic, the ladies would all understand. For those of you interested in some of the insane stories that came about from my cheating sessions, a short ebook will be published soon (stay tune to this blog for a link to the ebook site).

What's your opinion? Is cheating always wrong? When is it okay to cheat? Help me add to the lists.
